My Journey from North Carolina to Chicago for the MathCon Final Round
This spring, I had the opportunity to travel from North Carolina to Chicago to compete in the MathCon Final Round. As someone who has always enjoyed math, qualifying for the national competition was exciting, and I could not wait to experience it.
The trip started with an early morning flight. While I was excited, I was also nervous about the competition. During the flight, I spent time thinking about all the practice and preparation that had helped me reach this point. It felt rewarding to know that my hard work had earned me a place among some of the best young math students in the country.
When we arrived in Chicago, I was amazed by the city. The skyscrapers seemed much taller than anything I was used to seeing in North Carolina. The streets were busy, and everywhere I looked there was something new to explore. Seeing famous buildings and the city skyline made me even more excited to be there.
The day of the competition was both exciting and stressful. When I entered the venue, I saw students from all over the United States. Everyone had worked hard to qualify, and it was inspiring to be surrounded by so many talented people who shared the same interest in mathematics.
Once the test began, I focused on solving each problem carefully. Some questions were challenging and required a lot of thinking, but I enjoyed the experience. Competing at the national level pushed me to apply everything I had learned and challenged me to think in new ways.
One of the best parts of the trip was meeting other students. Even though we came from different states and backgrounds, we all enjoyed math and learning. Talking with them helped me realize how many different paths people can take to achieve success.
After the competition, I had time to enjoy more of Chicago. Walking through the city and taking in the views gave me a chance to reflect on the experience. Regardless of my final ranking, I felt proud of myself for making it to the final round and competing against some of the strongest students in the country.
This trip was about more than math. It gave me the opportunity to travel, meet new people, and challenge myself in a new environment. Traveling from North Carolina to Chicago for the MathCon Final Round is an experience I will always remember, and it has motivated me to continue pursuing my passion for mathematics.
